First of all create your sub-domain. My hosting server is hostgator , and when I create a sub-domain it assigns me a folder for that sub-domain. I copy the wordpress installation to this sub-domain and install it as the common WP installation.
Try to godaddy assigns you a folder for that sub-domain and upload by ftp WP package.

it appears i’d have to put a new comment box on every post i make. anyone know more details on how to do it where it’s basically generates a default comment section of every post i make on my website (a new one each time though) unless i specify for it to not allow comments for certain posts?

Where can I find stylish social media buttons for Blogger? I’ve been searching like crazy and, while there are tons with WordPress plugins, there are only very generic floating social media buttons for Blogger.

The only one I’ve found is from https://siteapps.com but the buttons are so small and they only contain the basic social media like: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, RSS Feed and that’s it!

I would like one similar (doesn’t have to be exactly) to the one found on the top right hand corner of: http://travelreportage.com/

WordPress template showing up in WP 2.7 Admin – causing major problems?

But not as the admin template. But not as the template. The background shows up in the background while the blogs content (headers, etc.) overlays the admin about halfway down the body section of the admin; that is, it doesn’t appear over the left-nav but where the modules appear.

Host keeps shutting down server because of the load and I have no idea what could cause this. I’ve removed plugins and changed themes.

My web host is telling me:
The problemmatic script seems to inlay in the path
/home2/rareexc/public_html/seobrien/index.php

.. As it’s causing PHP to go defunct. You will need to inspect/disable
the current wordpress installation there or any mods installed.
the whole path is just that it is the index.php file but the index.php file in wordpress doesn’t have much in it. Notice that that was my web hosts guess/suggestion. Doesn’t mean it is right.

We can’t see the whole path.

If it’s a single file, you can get a copy of that file from a new download and just upload that to overwrite the bad one. It might work.

I would just delete the blog and reinstall on the same path. Somehow it got corrupted. All your data should be secure in your database.

Keep in mind that your blog could have been hacked. Look up security measures to protect it.

WordPress plugins MISSING (old theme NOT working) Help?

Recently I (accidentally) deleted the theme I was currently using in my ftp client.

I re-uploaded the same theme (sans the few modifications I had made previously) to my ftp client under “/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/themes” like normal, but when I go into my wordpress admin panel, ALL of my plugins are GONE.

And when I activate my theme, nothing shows up but the theme alone. No posts, no nothing. I just get this error message in the sidebar:

“Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_useronline() in /home/meredith/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/Minimalistic/sidebar.php on line 8″

And frankly, I don’t understand what it means.

So I did a restore with a back-up I had downloaded earlier that day, but still nothing is right again.

I tried downloading and uploading my old plugins to my ftp, but when I go to my admin panel, they still don’t show up. I’ve tried uploading them directly to my wordpress admin panel and there’s still nothing.

I just want to know how to fix my old plugins and maybe get my old them back.

Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

Hiya .. This sounds so similar to a theme not working with the current version but if it was working prior to you deleting and you haven’t done any upgrading or downgrading of the WordPress version or “User online” plugin then it shouldnt happen.

To see if the plugins are actually gone though – kick it back to the default “ugly” wordpress theme that comes with wordpress and see if the plugins come back (you might have to “rename” that theme folder via FTP to do that if its not available in the WordPress admin area) – if the plugins and content come back, its something to do with that theme.

If it’s to do with the get_useronline error – then rename the plugin folder that belongs to that error (most like usersonline) to disable the plugin temporarily to see if that is the problem.

* Else perhaps that particular plugin needs to be “uploaded” to the plugins directory because its part of the theme..
* Else perhaps its code in the theme calling that function, in which case, defaulting back to the boring WordPress theme temporarily will answer that question for you too.

Aside from this happening several times with new themes and WP upgrades for myself, I don’t know what else to suggest aside from reinstalling the core files on WordPress which you should not need to do if all you did was delete the theme.

Hi! Posts wont show up after clicking Categories both on the top as well as the side panel. I’m using revolution lifestyle theme 1.0. I also have this plugins: akismet, bsuite, category posts widget (activated but not using the widget), the excerpt reloaded and scriblio. I was experimenting on some plugins but had them removed/deleted. My categories are working fine before but now it wont show any posts. I get this error: NOT FOUND, ERROR 404. I tried to change my theme to the default wordpress theme. Categories worked but when I switched back to revo lifestyle, categories wont show posts again. What should I do. I’m not so techie.

Without your URL it’s impossible to know what you have broken so here is my advice.

If you have not made any changes to the theme files since installing the theme, just uninstall and re-install the theme from your WP-admin. Be careful though because if you have customized any of the files manually you will lose all those changes by overwriting the theme files.

If you’re unsure, make backup copies of all your theme files beforehand by downloading them from your server to your hard drive (you will find theme files in wp-content/themes- that way if the uninstall or re-install causes more problems you can go back to what you started out with.

If this doesn’t work, take your question over to the WordPress forums, post your problem there along with your website URL and hopefully someone will be able to help you out.

Its difficult to know without more info, but if you are on self-hosted wordpress then the easiest way would be for you to find another theme that does what you want and use this. The comment structure will be built into your current theme and therefopre make it difficult for you to change.

I think they’re basically the same plan – more of a marketing tactic than anything. I’d go with the regular hosting plan, just to make sure you can easily install other types of software if you’d like.

1. WordPress is FREE

First of all , if you prefer a domain like :- yoursite.wordpress.com , it is completely free. So as with Blogger as well. WordPress only hosts it.

2. Go with own domain

You will need a hosting provided you want some domain like :- yoursite.com etc. Better go with your own domain + hosting. Then you can not only get the main domain but many other subdomains for FREE – unlimited number of subdomains.

3, Subdomains – unlimited

I do not know your business idea. But if you have got 100 or 1000 s of ideas :- you can very easily make sites with those ideas like :- idea1.yourdomain.com , idea2.yourdomain.com , so on & so forth.

4. Annual Cost

This is only possible if you do your own hosting-self hosted WordPress blog- believe me it is very very easy. The domain + Hosting may cost you to the tune of $ 25 [max]. For one domain. Recommended to start with 1 domain + 1 hosting to start up. Once you catch up , can get multiple domains etc. Better plans available. But better start small. Baby steps.

5. WordPress Set up is very very easy.

Once you understand the installation , can do this very very easily. What you have to do is :- Get a LINUX hosting account [ does not matter even if you have windows on your PC]. In linux , you get a software called fantastico , it makes your job idiot-proof. Once you learn the skills , can repeat for every subdomain.

6. Every subdomain – new site – new idea – new business for you.

I think the hosting is exactly the same in both cases (looks identical price / specs etc). It’s just that if you want to use wordpress, they will put it on and set it up for you as well. Basically, they are just trying to appeal to as many people as possible.

I installed wordpress myself – it really is just a 10min job as they say. You just need hosting that has PHP and a mysql database. But if godaddy will do it for you for nothing, i’d take that option.

The reason that most people do it is that they like to be in control of all their own stuff. Because it can be quite complex and expensive I think they tend to be techie guys, probably that work in the industry that know what they are doing. Personally I use http://www.terapad.com which is a hosted service, but its 100% free and has more features than wordpress. You can ad adsense in as well no problem, I have seen people do it with their Terapad sites ( see http://www.terapad.com/net for examples ). Yes there is a way. You can download the plugin you want to install in your local computer. The next thing you want to do is to download Filezilla or winscp. Find your ftp information and use this to login in Filezilla or winscp. On your left side, are all files stored in your local computer. On your right side are all files stored in your server. Go to your website folder, click public_html or htdocs, move in to wp-content->plugins. Drag and drop the folder in the plugins area.

I want to switch to a clean new WordPress theme for a site, but Google has indexed 2500 pages from the old site (mainly due to a calendar module creating a new page for each day). Your pages should remain even if you didn’t used wordpress before, so don’t worry, indexed pages will remain, just don’t delete them from your folder.

Any time a website redevelopment results in URL changes (unless the site has not been around very long or indexed by search engines), it is VERY important to put redirects in place. Otherwise, all indexed and linked to pages will result in a file not found (404 error) and you will essentially be starting form scratch for search engines. This is the case even if you submit a sitemap (although a sitemap may help your site to get crawled / indexed faster).

Redirects essentially involve cross referencing the old and the new URLs and tell the search engines to update their indexes. It will also redirect anyone going to an old URL to the new page.

The way the redirects are implemented will depend on your hosting environment. I suggest that you do some research on “301 redirects” to find out the best way to implement it for your server.

I have not head of Nucleus, but from the looks of the software’s website, looks less mature than WordPress.

I am somewhat biased, as I have been an extremely happy WordPress user for many years, but I honestly do think it’s great. Good luck!

WordPress help needed…..?

I am so confused.

I created a blog on WordPress and thought I could integrate that to my domain.

However, when I went to my domain and installed fantastico:wordpress, it seemed to have created a new username/etc on it’s own..

And I seem to be missing a few options under this ‘account’ than I have on my blog I created at wordpress.com

Specifically, the “blog stats” is missing from my domain’s “blog”
I thought if I installed the “wordpress stats” plugin, that would fix the problem..however when I go to that tab it requests a username and password. When I type in my domain’s blog’s UN and PW , it says unknown.

Very confusing………

I previously had the same problems. You see, when you create it on wordpress it is hosted at WordPress.com, but when you install it through fantastico you can ftp different themes, images etc.

Seems like you’ll have to redo it on the new user name and password you’ve created, just copy what you’ve already inserted in your existing wordpress to the new fantastico wordpress you’ve created.

WordPress Help! 404 Error?

Hi all,
I am in desperate need of some help! I have registered a domain name and got myself some hosting. I logged into my cpanel and downloaded wordpress using fantastico. It was all sucessful etc yay… not. when i click ‘visit my site’ it just says its parked with where i reggod the domain name with. when i go to ‘mydomain.com/wp-admin i get a 404 not found error. All i want to do is have my blog on my url and i cant for the life of me figure out why thats not happening. pleassse please help me!
i used fantastico… this is the error i get:
Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) PHP/5.2.6-1+lenny3 with Suhosin-Patch Server at rubysbarkforrights.com Port 80
i get the same thing if i do ‘mydomain.com.install’ yet it seems that it is installed cos everything is there in my cp and it said it was successful. still v confused as to why its not working

You need to find out the nameservers (there will be 2) of where your website “lives” – or is hosted at. You’ll have to contact your hosting support to find out.

Then, you will need to go wherever your domain name is currently living – the domain registrar – where you bought it, log into your admin panel that was given to you when you registered your domain name. There’s a spot there that you can put in the 2 nameservers you got from the hosting company. Then, wait anywhere from an hour to 72 hours for the internet to realize your domainname exists.

1. Hosting company for your nameservers
2. Domain registrar to change the nameservers.

I hope this is clear – I really tried not to be confusing.
